Instagram Roundup: CMT Artists Of The Year

The entire evening celebrated current female artists, rising female artists, and the classics and greats who paved the way for all of them!

This year’s CMT Artists of the Year celebration was more important than ever, focusing on the power of female artists. The ceremony honored this year’s artists of the year: Carrie Underwood, Hillary Scott, Maren Morris, Miranda Lambert, Kelsea Ballerini, Kimberly Schlapman, and Karen Fairchild. The entire evening celebrated current female artists, rising female artists, and the classics and greats who paved the way for all of them.

Each performance was as incredible as the one that came before it, with jaws dropping in awe of the talented women we have blazing their paths in country music. Pistol Annies, including CMT Artist of the Year, Miranda Lambert, performed “Sugar Daddy” from their upcoming reunion album. Kelsea Ballerini joined one of her idols, Alison Krauss, to perform a duet of Krauss’ hit, “Ghost In This House.” Hillary Scott, Tori Kelley, and Kirk Franklin received a standing ovation for their medley of “American Honey, “Never Alone,” and “Oh Happy Day.”

It would not be a celebration of women without honoring the life and legacy of Aretha Franklin. Maren Morris and Brandi Carlile united onstage for a breathtaking rendition of “Natural Woman.” The ladies of Little Big Town could not believe that they got to perform with Gladys Knight as they sang a medley of “I Can’t Make You Love Me” and “Help Me Make It Through The Night.”

Loretta Lynn, who could not be there to accept her Artist of a Lifetime award, was honored with a tribute performance from Martina McBride, Dierks Bentley, and Sheryl Crow. Carrie Underwood, Maddie & Tae, and Runaway June, otherwise known as the women of the Cry Pretty Tour 360, closed the show with a soulful medley of songs from the iconic women of country music’s past.

Watch all of the performances for yourself below. Congratulations to the amazing ladies of country music – we are grateful to have you every day.
