Singer-Songwriter Ryan Hurd is hitting the road this coming year for a limited engagement tour that will take him to four of the country’s most iconic venues! Hurd’s tour features special guest Ryan Beaver and includes stops in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Nashville. The country star will also be bringing along a new single to his upcoming shows, "To a T,“ which has a pulsating beat and showcases his mellow, baritone vocals quite nicely.
With all this exciting news, we had to get some exclusive insight from the man himself on the upcoming trek and his smooth new single. Check out the interview below to learn about Hurd’s “To a T,” what his shows have in store for fans, as well as a sweet mention of his superstar wife Maren Morris!
You’re kicking off the new year with a string of tour dates! What can fans expect from the tour?
This is the first time I’ve ever gotten to play my own show, so I think part of the fun is figuring out what kind of show we want to bring. I can promise it will lean heavily on the songwriting, and that’s about all we have figured out. But the fun part of being at the top of the ticket is that I’ll get to play a couple brand new songs that no one has heard and know that people are genuinely interested. The part that most excites me is putting together the set list, which I’ve been building with my music director Matt Payne and my drummer Jon Matteson.
Your tour includes stops at fairly iconic venues in Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago and Nashville, how does it feel to play these special venues?
I made a joke once that all I ever wanted to do was sell out Joe’s in Chicago and then I could retire. Well, we did that two days after they went on sale, but it just shows how much I respect each of these stages. I feel like each is a rite of passage in its own cool way. I’ve been going to Exit/In ever since I moved to Nashville, and the Bowery and Troubador are so iconic. They are all going to be special nights in their own way.
The trek will also include special guest Ryan Beaver. What was your motivation behind inviting Ryan to join you on tour?
Beaver is the most underrated artist I’ve ever met. Rx is one of my favorite country records ever, and he’s a close friend. Everything about it makes sense to me. He’s been writing new material lately, and the timing worked out perfectly. Can’t imagine a better fit.
You recently dropped your single, “To a T,” a follow up to “Diamonds Or Twine.” What’s the back story behind your latest single?
I’ve been recording with Aaron Eshuis and Dann Huff this year, and we have cut a handful of songs, but when the label heard this one they were pretty insistent on it being our next single. Maren is a big reason they even heard it, she was the first champion of it. I wrote it with Laura Veltz and Nathan Spicer, and it’s been really fun to release it and see how fans have loved it.
“To a T” also features background vocals by your wife Maren Morris! What is it like collaborating together?
She knows she has a standing invite to sing in whatever she wants. Both of us thought it would be fun for her to play it cool and do the harmonies. She’s about to release a new record, none of us want to distract from that. Our relationship started as a creative one, and to still get to write and sing together is very amazing.
