Morgan has written for a number of country stars and is now releasing her first full-length album, 'Borrowed Heart,' due out this Friday (10/5)!

This week’s New Artist Spotlight features Heather Morgan, a prominent songwriter in the country music community. With songs written for, and with, Brett Eldredge, Dierks Bentley, and many more, Morgan is now making her place as an artist. Her first full-length album, Borrowed Heart, is due out this Friday (10/5).

Featured as one of Rolling Stone’s “10 Artists You Need to Know” in September, Morgan is most frequently compared to Lori McKenna, Natalie Hemby, Ashley Monroe, and Lee Ann Womack. In fact, Morgan has a song with Lori McKenna on her upcoming album, titled “Arms of a Lion.”

Morgan told Rolling Stone about the raw emotion that goes into her songs, “I hope listeners experience my perspective on passion and emotion. I’m a deep feeler, and that was a lot of the motivation for these songs and this album. I know I’m not the only one that has gone through these life experiences of love and heartbreak, but I hope the perspective I’ve painted connects with the listener in a new way.”

She continues, “I love writing with artists and digging into their life story and whatever chapter they might be in. When I’m writing for myself, I love to dig in to the place I’m in as well. Sometimes that means I cry or feel like I’m ripping off the same Band-Aid until a song is done. I lead a lot with personal emotion versus a hook.”

In a feature TIME article featuring Morgan alongside Caitlyn Smith and Maggie Chapman, she explains the empowerment she feels as a woman, being able to create a solo album from the money she made writing hits for male artists, “It’s empowering to think that I took my own money that I made writing songs for a bunch of boys and made my own music.”

We can’t wait to hear Heather Morgan’s debut album on Friday. Pre-order Borrowed Heart now and watch out the official video for the lead single, “Your Hurricane,” below:
