If you're a Kacey Musgraves fan, you're in for a real treat! The 29-year-old singer-songwriter just released another new track off her upcoming album, Golden Hour. The new single, “High Horse", is a fun, disco-inspired track about “that character that is just a little high of themselves", said Musgraves.
“I had this title sitting around for a long time, and I have my own ideas about who it's about," Musgraves explained to Zane Lowe at Apple Music's Beats1 for the song premiere. “Everyone has that character in their life, and then I got to write it, and, oh my gosh, it is the most fun ever."
The official lyric video for the song dropped as well, and it looks just as disco as the song sounds! Featuring transitions that look straight from the seventies, the video displays the lyrics in a way that looks like a blast from the past, with the lines in both English and other languages in the background. Though the song might sound a bit different from her previous singles “Space Cowboy" and “Butterflies", “High Horse" and its lyrics are still very undeniably Musgraves.
“I was inspired by a thought of a world where all these ideas could come together musically and still translate as good songs if I sat down and played them on my guitar," Musgraves said. The song is certainly as good as it is danceable!
