Kacey Musgraves Performs ‘Space Cowboy’ On ‘The Tonight Show’

Kacey Musgraves stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to debut her latest single “Space Cowboy." Decked out from head to toe in a sparkly jumpsuit, Musgraves was a shining beacon as she performed the sobering tune in front of the late night show's studio audience. The country singer's bandmates accompanied beautifully behind her, wearing matching periwinkle ensembles to help channel the vintage feel and style we’ve come to expect from Musgraves' music.

“Space Cowboy" is a melodic tune that is all about setting the one you love free, especially when you know there's no use in trying to make them stay. Watch Musgraves' beautiful performance in the clip below:

Musgraves released “Space Cowboy" as well as the track “Butterflies" out to fans on Friday, February 23, to help tease her upcoming album Golden Hour.

For the Texas native, “Space Cowboy" was a peek into her past, and a confirmation of where her future is headed. “It's a look into where I've been, and where I am now. I like that it's very sparse. And it's just about making peace with a door closing in your life. I feel like everyone can relate to that. When you're just like, 'I don't understand this. It hurts right now.' But it allows something better to come in," Musgraves said during an interview with CMT.

Musgraves also shared a clip of “Space Cowboy" on her Instagram, with an insightful story on the songs creation in the caption.

One day I was out at the barn watching this stallion charging powerfully from one end of the arena to the other, bucking and galloping at full speed all alone. Though I was “safe" on the other side of the arena wall, it kinda scared me when he came flying toward me..barely stopping in time. My riding teacher saw him coming at me and yelled at me to move away. I said “I'm fine! The gate is closed!" to which she said, “Girl - when they wanna go they will go…there ain't no point in even shuttin' the gate." It really made a mark on me when she said that and I wrote it down. SPACE COWBOY came a couple days after with @shanemcanally + @lukerobert ✨Make peace with what doesn't belong. You'll find something better.
