Often thought of as an upbeat and patriotic tune about the strength and unity of the cultures and individuals that make up the United States, “This Land Is Your Land" is a timeless tune that has served as a theme song to the American people for many years. Originally composed in 1940 by folk singer Woody Guthrie, “This Land If Your Land" has been taken on by a number of country artists over the years, but none so uniquely haunting as Sam Hunt's recent rendition.
Hunt recorded the cover for the Netflix original action film Bright, which airs December 22 starring Will Smith. Out now, the soundtrack also features new music by Bastille, Alt-J, Portugal. The Man, Camila Cabello, Snoop Dogg and many more.
Listen to Hunt's dark take on the classic song in the clip below:
The film surrounds Will Smith's character Daryl Ward, a Los Angeles Police Department officer who lives in an alternate present day where humans, orcs, elves and fairies co-exist – you better be ready to suspend all sense of reality with this one.
Knowing the films synopsis, it's no wonder Hunt took on a somewhat dark tone for his cover, which ultimately created a uniquely beautiful sound all his own. The country singer has recently been nominated for a Grammy for his smash hit “Body Like A Back Road," which is expected to be released on his yet-to-be-announced sophomore album.
