New Artist Spotlight: Seth Alley
The self-proclaimed “small town kid" describes his sound as “something real & authentic."
Rising star Seth Alley hails from Sparta, a small town in East Tennessee. The oldest of three children, Alley's musical journey began at the young age of 13 when he first picked up a guitar. By 14, the singer-songwriter formed his first band.
After playing more than 1,000 shows, Alley began making regular trips to Nashville in 2012. He soon met Clarence Spalding, who signed the aspiring artist to Maverick Management — home of music heavyweights including Jason Aldean, Madonna, Shania Twain, Britney Spears, The Weeknd and more.
In 2014, Alley landed a publishing deal with Sony ATV, and released a four-song, self-titled EP through Big Machine Records.
The self-proclaimed “small town kid" describes his sound as “something real and authentic." In a “Get To Know Seth Alley" video on YouTube, he explains his music as, “A little bit of rock 'n' roll meets country meets pop — it's a very organic sound. The songs are — I mean, they're real, they're personal. They really are."
Truthful songwriting is of paramount importance to Alley, whose songs are inspired by real-life experiences.
“Every song I write is like a chapter from a book… they are stories for you and truths for me," he says. “I never write a song just to write a song. They paint a true and vivid picture of what my life is or was like. My goal when writing is to make people feel something — I want them to think. My stories, and thus my songs, come from observation, lessons, love and dreams."
His lyrical honesty appears to be paying off, with fellow artists like The Cadillac Three's Jaren Johnston praising Alley's abilities.
In mid-June, Alley independently released a five-song EP titled, “From the Inside Out." In a video posted on Twitter, he shared his goal for the new project: to take the most difficult challenges he's faced and turn them into something positive, in hopes of encouraging others who may have found themselves in a rough patch.
By early August, the EP's first single, “Be Yourself," had been streamed more than one million times on Spotify.
Alley released a new single, “Couple's Skate," on September 22. Check out the music video below:
