Jason Isbell’s Ryman Residency To Include All Female Supporting Acts

Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit are scheduled to perform a residency of six sold-out shows at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium in October. Isbell is making certain that this pivotal point in his career will not only influence himself though, bringing along six rising female supporting acts to accompanying him. These acts will include The Secret Sisters, Julien Baker, Bettye LaVette, Amanda Shires (Isbell's wife), Lydia Loveless and The McCrary Sisters.

Check out their announcement videos below:

It's no secret that Isbell has a heart for shedding light on feminist issues. In his recent song, “White Man's World," Isbell speaks on the lack of an even playing field that exists within the music industry. (“I'm a white man living in a white man's world / Under our roof is a baby girl / I thought this world could be hers one day / But her mama knew better / I'm a white man living in a white man's town / Want to take a shot of cocaine and burn it down / Mama wants to change that Nashville sound / But they're never gonna let her")

Isbell has witnessed the inequality as his wife works to pave a way for herself in the Nashville music scene. In an article with Rolling Stone, Isbell explains, “I’ve seen it with Amanda. She writes her own songs and tours, and through her experience I’ve seen how much harder it is for her. You don’t get the same respect. It is not a level playing field by any means.” Isbell isn't just choosing these female openers to make a statement; he genuinely respects these female artists and wants to share the spotlight to highlight their talents.

Isbell and The 400 Unit are also nominated for CMA's Album of the Year Award: a huge accomplishment for Americana/Independent artists within the music industry. Check out their new album The Nashville Sound here.
