Ladies and gentleman, the teens have spoken and the teens want Sam Hunt and Carrie Underwood. There were a lot of country stars up for a variety of nominations, but the 2017 Teen Choice Awards ceremony held on Sunday night (August 13) settled things once and for all.
Underwood took home the trophy for Choice Country Artist and Hunt scored a victory in the Choice Country Song category. Neither artist could make it to the Sunday night show (probably out of fear of being slimed), but Underwood did tweet her gratitude for receiving the award.
Other stars up for Choice Country Artist included Hunt, Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton, Florida Georgia Line and Kelsea Ballerini. Hunt's song “Body Like A Backroad" was up against Thomas Rhett and Maren Morris' hit “Craving You," Blake Shelton's “Every Time I Hear That Song," Keith Urban and Underwood's duet “The Fighter," FGL and the Backstreet Boys' song “God, Your Mama and Me" and Brett Young's sweet tune “In Case You Didn't Know."
Country music had a solid showing at this year's Teen Choice Awards as the genre gets more and more popular. There was even a lot of crossover nominations into all-genre categories that included many iconic pop stars.
None of these nominations resulted in a win, but nonetheless, Hunt found his way into the Choice Song: Male and Choice Summer Tour categories, FGL and The Backstreet Boys were up for Choice Collaboration, and FGL were in the running for Choice Summer Group. What's more, Shelton was duking it out for Choice Twit and Choice TV Personality, while “Somethin' I'm Good At" Brett Eldredge had a shot at Choice Snapchatter.
Underwood and Hunt made sure there was no way the genre was going home without a couple awards under their belts. Thanks for holding it down for the country music world!
