There's a new baby in town. Thomas Rhett's newborn daughter is here and his wife Lauren's baby bump is gone! On Saturday (August 12), in Nashville, Tennessee, the “Die A Happy Man" singer and Lauren Akins welcomed Ada James Akins into the world at 10:28PM.
Suffice it to say that Rhett was taken aback by the beautiful moment. The singer called the moment “the most amazing thing I have ever experienced" in an Instagram post. Weighing 7 pounds and 3 ounces, it's already clear that Ada James is a bundle of joy!
And this special development comes just about three months after Rhett and his wife adopted their baby girl Willa Gray Akins from Uganda in May.
Rhett exclaimed, “I can't believe we have two daughters!!" And then did the only thing that was right to do next — he thanked his wife. She labored almost 36 hours, prompting Rhett to praise her as “the strongest human being I have ever met" and credit her with giving him a “new found respect for moms around the world."
Lauren will gladly take the praise and she deserves to! In her own Instagram post of the same photo, she declared that “only Jesus got me through that," but knew the whole way through that Ada is “sooo worth it." Of course she is, because in her mother's words, she's “so stinking cute I just can't take it!"
And this birth came as one of the coolest surprises out there. When Rhett and Akins started the adoption process a few months back, they had given up on trying to conceive. The sweet pair said, “Let's wait, let's give this adopted child his or her time with us, and then we'll continue our family." Then Rhett's wife started feeling sick during their vacation in Tanzania, they were both sure it was just food poisoning. But nope — Ada James Akins was already on the way.
The childhood sweethearts, who have known each other since first grade, are even closer in their marriage now, as they experience life's awesome moments together. And even though he's been busy growing a family together, Rhett has still been active on the country music scene. Life Changes, his newest album, will drop on September 8. We're thankful Rhett stayed up on the music during this marvelous time in his world, because these are the things in life worth documenting.
Congratulations to the whole family!
