New Artist Spotlight: Levi Hummon

Growing up with a Grammy Award winning songwriter for a father, Levi Hummon has learned what it takes to make it in the music industry. Levi's father, Marcus Hummon, is a writer on three number one hits including the Dixie Chicks' “Cowboy Take Me Away," Sara Evans' “Born to Fly" and Rascal Flatts' “Bless the Broken Road." Following in his father's footsteps, songwriting came naturally to the Music City native.

“You're letting someone into your world which is really vulnerable," says Levi. “I write from a reflective & personal place and ultimately I couldn't see anyone else singing these songs."

Hummon released his debut self titled EP last year via Big Machine Records. Co-writing 4 out of the 5 tracks, he engraved his personal mark on the project. He has had the opportunity to tour with superstars such as Sam Hunt, Kelsea Ballerini, Hunter Hayes, and Billy Currington. His latest single, “Don't Waste the Night" is pop-infused and a sonic change of pace for the rising star. Co-written with Josh Thompson and Matt Dragstrem, the single is radio-ready and will have fans of artists like Sam Hunt loving the sound.

The song is catchy and features parts that almost fall in the “spoken word" category, again similar to Sam Hunt's style:

“Don't take your time cause that morning's gonna shine / And I need those eyes staring into mine / Just cause you're tangled up in the sheets / It don't mean we gotta go to sleep / No need for dreaming, we can make our dreams come true / Let's get lost in the moment / I wanna get lost with you / Show you what's on my mind, don't close your eyes / Don't waste the night / Come on, come over / Don't waste the night / Stay up, stay over"

Hummon is well on his way, building his fan base and working on new music, which certainly makes him one to watch. For fans living in Chicago, be sure to catch Levi Hummon at the Windy City Smokeout next month. Learn more about Levi here.
