90’s country superstar Shania Twain is stepping back into the spotlight after taking over a decade off. The singer announced her new record, Shania Now, will be available September 29 but to hold fans over until then, she released a brand new single yesterday. “It’s About to Get Good” impacts country radio this Monday, June 19 but you can take a listen below.
As a solo write, the song is deeply personal to Twain, allowing the emotions of her difficult divorce with Robert John “Mutt” Lange bubble to the surface. "I was at home, looking out at the ocean, and I said to myself, 'Here I am stuck in this past of negativity, but it's so beautiful out. I'm not in the mood to write a feeling-sorry-for-myself song,‘" Twain remembers. “You can't have the good without the bad. And that's what the song ended up being about."
The track, produced by Matthew Koma and Ron Aniello is upbeat, positive outlook on a bad situation. The song opens with: “I wasn't just broken, I was shattered / I trusted you so much, you're all that mattered / You no longer loved me, and I sang like a sad bird / I couldn't move on and I think you were flattered." This sets the tone for the rest of the song, taking the good with the bad and realizing that things are looking up. “Oh, life's about joy, life's about pain / It's all about forgiving and the will to walk away, I'm ready to be loved and love the way I should / Life's about, life's about to get good …"
Fans have always loved Twain’s honest approach to music and this first single off of her forthcoming album is a testament to that. Check out Shania Twain perform “Life’s About to Get Good” on Today’s Citi Concert Series today, Friday, June 16.
