EARLY LIFE

George Strait, also know as the king of country music, grew up on his family-owned farm in Pearsall, Texas. Strait always had a deep love for music and was in a band throughout high school, but after high school, Strait married his high school sweetheart and enlisted in the army. While in the army, Strait sang in the army sponsored band and kept his love for music alive. After serving, Strait returned to Texas and attended Southwest Texas State University where he earned a degree in agriculture. During college, he formed his own local band, Ace in the Hole, which gained a decently large following. Though he continued to play with the band, the group never gained real recognition and Strait eventually signed a recording contract as a solo artist after almost giving up on music all together.

MUSIC CAREER

Today, Strait is known as one of the biggest names in country music. Strait has released a new album nearly every year since his first album Strait Country in 1981 which immediately put him on the map as one of country’s biggest names. George Strait has been nominated for 16 Grammy Awards, has won 17 Academy of Country Music Awards, and has won 23 CMA awards making him the most CMA awarded artist in history. Some of Strait’s hit songs include Amarillo By Morning, Run, I Cross My Heart, Carrying Your Love With Me, and Troubadour. Strait is known for his traditional country twang, deep vocals, and his 60 #1 singles over the course of his 30 year career.
