EARLY LIFE

Growing up in Katy, Texas, Black found a love for music early on. He played in a band with his 3 older brothers and eventually dropped out of high school to play music with them. He played with his brothers for a few years but eventually became a solo act. He supported himself as a construction worker, bait cutter, and fishing guide before meeting longtime musical partner Hayden Nicholas while playing at a club. The two decided to partner together and soon met with Bill Ham who at the time was the manager for ZZ Top. Bill introduced the two young artists to the right people and then signed a recording contract with RCA.

MUSIC CAREER

After signing with RCA, Black released his first album Killin’ Time in 1989 which included his #1 hit song also titled Killin’ Time. This song not only hit #1 on the charts, but also went platinum by 1990. By 1992, Black’s first two albums had sold nearly 5 million copies and he was regarded as a main face in country music. In 1996, Clint became the 4th ever country singer to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and he continued to release more chart topping songs. Today, Clint Black has received 5 Academy of Country Music Awards, an American Music Award, and 2 Country Music Association awards. He has released 12 studio albums and is known as one of the biggest country artists of this time.
